Kitchen Simplified

Image
As much as I hate to admit, but I was a bad cook before marriage. I didn't pay much attention to details or rather didn't want to. My mum did her best to teach me but I simply wasn't into it. She was a bit short on patience too and in case of any mistakes she took law in her own hands. And did all the cooking by herself.   My real growth in cooking department was after I got married. Not that my mother-in-law was lovey dovey about me, not that she had loads of patience.  She had some great practical kitchen hacks and was focused on training me. On my part, I was a devoted student. So as I developed my cooking skills, I came up with some of my own shortcuts. Please note that these are shortcuts only to save time. Loss of nutrients or taste perfection is not expected.    There are some common gravies which you can always keep ready in your refrigerator like sauces to prepare curries.  Like for example this is my favorite Punjabi gravy. I have a habit of study...

Amma's recipes

Am still an amateur in replicating the quality of dishes that Mum or Naani serve. But here is an honest effort to present some of my Granny's  (whom I call Amma) traditional recipes with a modern twist. I would like to begin with one of my tastiest favourites : Gobi Manchurian  Ingredients : Cauliflower 1/2 Kg  (Please note that although this dish is called Gobi Manchurian, its more like ) Corn Flour Maida Onions - 4 medium-sized & medium-chopped Tomatoes - 6 big Garlic- Ginger paste - 2 tablespoons Oil to fry Procedure :  1. Boil water & put tomatoes in it for 5 minutes.  2. Peel them & make a puree.  3. Put  chopped onions in heated oil & fry till golden brown.  4. Take half of the fried onions aside.  5. Add Garlic-Ginger paste to the contents of pan & fry for some more time.  6. Add tomato puree to this & cook for 5 more minutes.  7. Meanwhile make a thick batter of corn-flour & maida mixed in equal q...

A message of love In 1881, a professor asked his student whether it was God who created everything that exists in the universe? Student replied: Yes He again asked: What about evil? Has God created evil also? The student got silent... Then the student requested that may he ask a question? Professor allowed him to do so. Student asked:  Does cold exist? Professor said: Yes! Don't you feel the cold dear? Student said:  I'm sorry but you are wrong sir.  Cold is a complete absence of heat... There is no cold, it is only an absence of heat. Student asked again: Does darkness exist? Professor Said:  Yes! Student replied: you are again wrong sir. There is no such thing like darkness. It’s actually the absence of light. Sir! We always study light & heat, but not cold & darkness. Similarly, the evil does not exist. Actually it is the absence of Love, Faith & True belief in God. The name of the student was... Vivekananda...!!! Very inspiring message😊

Attachment in Detachment How many of us have felt that WhatsApp is a wastage of resources, time included? That it has given impetus to gossip mongering. Well, I do agree that those chain messages do make me mad but I happen to find some gems that I feel like sharing with everyone. Maybe you have already read this thousands of times, but a few messages make quite an impression on me. It brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it. It made me think how I may have indirectly hurt my own parents. It now made me much more considerate about their feelings.  Attachment in Detachment Written by Sudha Murthy, famous Indian Author and wife of Infosys founder Narayan Murthy.....Worth reading....... "When my daughter, the older of my two, wed and left home, I felt a part of me gone. With a daughter and a son, I know what both mean, differently. When she was in her teens I felt as if she was my "physical extension" ! So when she left home to set up her own, I felt I lost a limb...
